Healthy Eating for All

The University of Oklahoma's Health Hut was on the south oval this Wednesday encouraging students to be healthy and eat fruits.

The main goal of the hut was to bring health awareness to the students on campus.

The Health Hut was handing out free bags of apples and bananas to anyone walking by on campus.

"We try to promote something healthy and different every week," says Nicole Pritchard, Health educator for heath promotion.

Next week, the Health Hut will be promoting bicycle safety. They are going to have someone from the Huston Huffman on campus adjusting people's bicycle seats to a safe and comfortable level.

"It's really important for students to be involved and have their voices heard on campus," said business junior Taylor Clarkson.

Tyler Nunley was the elected winner and will be the new CAC chair president for the 2009-2010 school year.

Healthy Eating Not So Easy...

http://jmc.ou.edu:16080/vieth/pennelljunkfoodss/

Kappa Alpha Theta sorority house at the University of Oklahoma has made eating healthy a difficult task.

Girls who live at Theta find the abundance of available "junk food" difficult to over look when making healthy food choices.

The Theta members are hoping to see a change in their menu.

"It gets really frustrating when you try your hardest to be health concious but it is made almost impossible to do that because of the food you are offered," says Allie Simpson, Kappa Alpha Theta member. "Especially when we are the ones paying for the food."

The Theta house has recently hired a new cook and are already seeing some improvements to their menu. They are hoping that their suggestions to the new cook will soon be seen in their kitchen.

Spring Break Bodies

The Huston Huffman at the University of Oklahoma is extra crowded recently due to students trying to get in shape for spring break in two weeks.

Students wanting to work out at the gym are going to be competing with other students for treadmills, elliptical machines, and other workout machines.

The over crowded Huffman is making an impact on student's normal work out schedules.

"I use to come in the late afternoon or evening to work out, but now I have to come in the early morning if I want to be guaranteed a treadmill," said advertising junior, Jessica Shadid.

Normally after spring break the gym is not as crowded so there is still hope for students who work our religiously year round.

Tornado Devastates Oak Tree Residents.

A tornado creates horrible damage, devastating residents in Oak Tree last Tuesday, February 10.

Multiple houses were completely demolished, while others surrounding the damaged houses are in perfect condition.

The tornado resulted in debris scattered throughout the neighborhood, trees uprooted and leaving many families with nothing.

"I was in our newly built shelter in our garage and I could hear the tornado go right by our house," said Karen Martin, Oak Tree resident. "It sounded exactly like a train, just minus the 'chugging' sound."

Oak Tree is currently in the process of slowing picking up the pieces with multiple construction teams helping sort through the debris. The rebuilding and reconstruction of damaged homes does not have a set date just yet.

City to add Campus Corner extension to running trail

A new bike and pedestrian trail is scheduled to be extended along East Duffy street near Campus Corner this summer.

The trail, called The Legacy, will replace old sidewalks on Duffy Street, Asp Avenue, and Jenkins avenue.

Thursday's meeting was one of three set by Norman's Recreation and Parks Department and the Oklahoma City firm heading up the project. Before they begin construction they wanted to discuss what Norman residents are wanting from the project.

The Association of Central Oklahoma Governments hopes to connect the trails from Edmond to Oklahoma City and to Norman, forming a regional bike and pedestrian trail system.

The second meeting was scheduled for March 2, but due to the first meeting being delayed from the ice storm, the second meeting might be rescheduled.
